Check Your Refrigerator: Important Recalls on Pork and Beef Products

It’s crucial to stay informed about food safety, particularly with recent recalls announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Presently, there are two significant recalls concerning pork and beef products, primarily due to production issues and mislabeling.

Pork Sausage Recall

The first recall involves approximately 7,485 pounds of raw Italian pork sausage. This product was sold in three states: Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The affected sausage was labeled as “Old World Italian Sausage” and was available at deli counters from October 3, 2024, to December 19, 2024, without the requisite FSIS inspection. If you have purchased raw sausage from a deli counter in these states, it’s essential to check your refrigerator for this item and dispose of it immediately. There have been no reported infections linked to this recall, but if you experience any illness after consumption, consult your healthcare provider promptly.

Bologna Recall

In addition to the pork sausage recall, the FSIS has also announced the recall of 3,132 pounds of Ralph’s Circle R branded Garlic Bologna. This product may have been sliced and sold at deli counters in grocery stores throughout Oklahoma since September 2022. The recall is attributable to the undeclared presence of dairy, which poses a risk for individuals with dairy allergies.

While there are currently no consumer complaints related to the bologna recall, those with dairy allergies may face severe reactions, including anaphylaxis, if they consume this product. Symptoms of anaphylaxis can include hives, swelling, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, a hoarse voice, tightness in the throat, and potentially cardiac arrest. In case of any severe allergic reactions, it is vital to call 911 immediately.

Additional Information

For further inquiries about these recalls and food safety, individuals can contact the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or email MPHotline@usda.gov.

Stay vigilant and ensure your food items are safe to consume.
