While these are important discussions, they can overshadow one of the most vital roles of beauty: serving as a powerful tool for self-care and compassion.

During times of stress, taking the simple step of caring for oneself can feel radical. Showing yourself compassion, regardless of how that manifests, is no small feat. This topic was explored in a recent episode of Clean Beauty School, where I had the pleasure of discussing with my longtime friend and beauty expert, Elenora Miller, the founder of the natural spa brand Exquisite Face & Body.

Why Compassion is One of Beauty’s Most Important Functions

Miller expresses a common frustration within the beauty industry: the pressure that makes engaging in beauty rituals feel like an obligation, rather than an opportunity for self-care. She shares her personal experience of losing both of her parents in quick succession during the pandemic, which prompted her to reevaluate her approach to self-care.

“How you view your beauty rituals should be entirely up to what you need,” Miller asserts. “For some, it’s reading a book with a cup of tea while enjoying a face mask. For others, it’s closing their eyes, unwinding, and performing a few simple steps.” The essence is clear: during challenging times, it’s crucial to relearn the art of self-care.
