Urgent Recall: Frozen Chicken Empanadas at Walmart
Attention shoppers! There is an immediate recall affecting frozen chicken empanadas sold at Walmart locations nationwide. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), this recall has been initiated due to misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen.
The product in question is the Bettergoods-branded Chicken Curry Empanadas. Boxes that are part of this recall have a printed best-by date of “05/21/26” or “05/22/26,” and they carry the establishment number P33967. Concerns were raised following four consumer complaints indicating that these empanada packages may have been incorrectly labeled and might actually contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas instead. This mislabeling poses a significant risk for individuals with dairy allergies, as the apple empanadas may contain milk, while the chicken empanadas do not.
If you have these empanadas in your freezer, it’s crucial to examine them right away. If you find that your frozen product matches the details outlined above, you should either dispose of it or return it to your local Walmart for a full refund. Those who consume the recalled product and are allergic to dairy may be at risk of severe reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can manifest through symptoms such as hives, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, tightness in the throat, difficulty breathing, or even cardiac arrest. If you experience any of these symptoms after eating the affected empanadas, it is vital to call 911 immediately.
